  • Vaginal Infections: An infection in the vagina may lead to vaginal inflammation, or vaginitis. Vaginal infections may be due to an imbalance in the bacteria and yeast in the vagina. The underlying causes include douching, vaginal atrophy, spermicidal contraceptives, detergent and fabric softener, and synthetic or tight-fitting clothes.
  • STI: Sexually transmitted diseases spread from one individual to another through sexual contact. It may spread due to vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Sexually transmitted diseases include pelvic inflammatory disease, HIV, syphilis, genital warts, and some types of cancer. The management options for the sexually transmitted diseases include oral or topical antibiotics, surgery, and laser therapy.
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): The condition involves infection of the female reproductive system. The sexually transmitted infection spreads from the vagina to other reproductive organs, such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and uterus. The symptoms of the pelvic inflammatory disease include pain during sexual intercourse, fever, frequent urination, pain in the pelvis and abdomen, and heavy or unusual vaginal discharge.
  • Menstrual disorders: Menstrual disorders are characterized by disturbance in the regular menstrual cycle of a woman. Women with menstrual disorders experience abnormally heavy bleeding, pain, and cramps during menstruation or the absence of bleeding. The menstrual periods of these patients are also irregular. Some causes of menstrual disorders include hormonal imbalances, uterine fibroids, sexually transmitted diseases, cancer, and clotting disorders.
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Women with PCOS have small, fluid-filled sacs (cysts) on the edge of the ovary. The women experience irregular periods. The examination reveals cysts in the ovaries and high levels of androgen. The possible causes of PCOS include heredity, insulin resistance, low-grade inflammation, and high androgen levels.
