Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy involves the usage of highly powerful drugs, to target and kill the rapidly dividing cancer cells. They mainly interfere with the cell cycle, to stop the division of cancer cells and to destroy them.

The following are some of the methods to administer chemotherapy drugs to the patients:

  • Oral Chemotherapy- Administration of chemotherapy drugs in the form of pills or liquids (syrups), through the mouth. Typically, our doctors decide the dosage of the drugs based on the type of cancer and the stage at which it is identified; some drugs are given daily, while others are given every week. It is always suggestible to follow the instructions of the doctors while taking high-dose drugs.
  • Intravenous (IV) Chemotherapy- Administration of the chemotherapy drugs through IV catheter.

Chemotherapy drugs are administered either before or after radiation therapy or surgery. These drugs are helpful in the reduction of the severity of the symptoms and allow the patients to live a better life even with the underlying disease condition. The dosage of chemotherapy drugs is different among patients and typically depends on the type and stage of the tumor. Our experienced oncologists carefully design personalized chemotherapy regimens, maximizing effectiveness while minimizing side effects.
