The department of nephrology at Citizen’s Hospitals offers comprehensive nephrology services in almost all types of kidney disorders and diseases under one roof. The unit caters to patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, renal transplantation and some of the complex auto-immune conditions.

Kidney transplantation at Citizen’s Hospital

The Citizens Hospital’s Kidney Transplant team is a multidisciplinary unit of highly skilled and trained transplant experts from various disciplines – transplant physicians and nephrologists, urologists, transplant surgeons, transplant anaesthetists, critical care specialists, transplant coordinators, social workers and transplant nurses. The unit has expertise to perform live donor, cadaveric kidney transplants and ABO-incompatible transplants.

  • Ability to perform low-flux and high flux dialysis and hemodiafiltration (HDF).
  • 24 hours emergency dialysis as well as continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for critically ill patients.
  • Facilities to insert AV fistulas, lines (both temporary and tunnelled) and peritoneal dialysis catheters.
  • Dedicated team to initiate and manage patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
  • Plasma exchange (both membrane-based and apheresis techniques) and immuno-adsorption facilities
  • Facilities to perform live donor kidney transplantation as well as ABO-incompatible kidney transplants.
  • Work up and registration for cadaveric kidney transplants under state government sponsored Jeevandan program.
  • Renal biopsies.
  • Facilities to administer cytotoxic drugs such as cyclophosphamide and monoclonal antibodies such as rituximab.
