3 years of D.M. residency at the Gujarat Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India (September 2009): Designation: Specialist senior registrar.

  • Running adult Medical Oncology outpatient visits twice a week, Pediatric Medical Oncology outpatient visits twice a week, oncological emergency duties twice a week with duty in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit once every 4-5 days for the first year of the D.M. tenure and 6 months in second year. Daily inpatient bedside rounds (approximately 30-35 adults, 3-4 BMT recipients and 15-20 pediatric patients). Therapeutic and diagnostic procedures (Bone marrow biopsies / aspirations, fine needle aspirations, lumbar punctures, intra-thecal chemotherapy etc.) on every alternate day.

  • Presented more than 60 lectures on various aspects of oncology in the interdepartmental academic sessions in the 1st and 2nd year of residency.

Dr Arun during his 3years of the D.M. residency at the Gujarat Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. He was actively involved in teaching and training medical, dental, radiotherapy and physiotherapy undergraduates during their posting in the department of medical and paediatric oncology.

Dr Arun in addition to regular lectures, evening classes did informative bed-side clinical teaching in the discipline of medical oncology for the first year and second year D.M. residents in his second and third year of D.M. residency respectively and was involved in various trials conducted at GCRI.

As a co-ordinator in the following trials

    • Efficacy and safety of paclitaxel nano-dispersion concentrate for injection (PICN) in subjects with metastatic breast cancer: A randomized, open label, active controlled, comparative, parallel group, and multi-centric study.

    • A Phase III, Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Multicenter Clinical Trial to Study the Safety, Tolerability, Efficacy, and Immunogenecity of V212 in Recipients of Autologous Hematopoietic Cell Transplants (HCTs).

Management & IT skills:

  • Conducted regular multidisciplinary team meetings during postings in various departments as registrar and as Assistant Professor of General Medicine.
